Zooey Deschanel Finalizes Divorce
Last week, a Los Angeles judge finalized the divorce of
Zooey Deschanel and estranged husband Ben Gibbard. Deschanel, who stars on the
Fox sitcom “New Girl,” married the Death Cab for Cutie frontman in September
2009. They separated two years later and filed for divorce in December 2011,
citing “irreconcilable differences” as the cause. According to the couple,
their split was “mutual and amicable.”
While the financial details of the divorce are not public
record, it appears that both Zooey and Ben agreed to waive their rights to spousal
support. This seems reasonable considering they parted on amicable terms
and both of them have substantial financial independence. Deschanel’s net worth
is estimated to be approximately $3 million, while Gibbard’s band is quite successful.
The couple did not have any children, a fact which likely
served to further simplify their divorce process.
